Description
It’s not often that you get such a big reward for so little effort! But that’s the case with Hokitika Gorge, located about 30 km from the town of Hokitika on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. In less than 1 km of very easy walking from carpark you reach the turquoise blue Hokitika River and Gorge. First, there is a tantalizing overlook point where you can view the gorge and some downstream farmland. Then you cross a swing bridge over the gorge, and finally to this viewpoint on the rocks. I never got tired of the turquoise water of so many of the streams and rivers in New Zealand. Spend 10 minutes if you are in a hurry or a couple hours if you just want to relax and enjoy the view.
