Description
The Hamsa is an amulet shaped like a hand, thought to protect against the Evil Eye. Many scholars believe that the Hamsa symbol predates Christianity, Judaism and Islam, though no one is certain about its origin.
• In Judaism, the Hamsa is called the Hand of Miriam, after Moses' sister.
• In Islam, the Hamsa is called the Hand of Fatima, for the child of Mohammed.
• Levantine Christians call it the Hand of Mary, for the mother of Jesus.
It can be displayed in your home as a decorative element, but however it is displayed, the amulet is thought to bring good luck and happiness. You can give Hamsas on different occasions, such as weddings, birth of a new baby, house warming parties, birthdays, anniversaries and so on.
I do my illustration with the watercolor and gouache paints on acid free 140 lb. illustration board, 11x14 (a standard size for the store bought frame).
You can tell me your personal wishes (colors, objects, ideas and preferences and I e-mail you sketch in color in few days. On this stage you can make changes once and I will e-mail you back a new sketch. After I received the proof I will start working on your Hamsa. ( on this stage changes will be no longer possible!)
Usually, it will take couple of weeks to complete the order. It will be shipped to you wrapped in the bubble wrap to stay flat in the box with "DO NOT BEND" clear sign on it. No returns or exchanges. Please contact me if you have any problems with your order at nonna.mynatt@yahoo.com
This Hamsa was made as a retirement gift, that was given to a lady moving to another country. She was a translator for deaf people (you can see a small sign from American sign language that is drawn below the eye). On the painting, I drew her cat, who is looking at the Chicago skyline through the window, a theater curtain because she loved the theater, and a few personal mementos.
