Description
"A tree says: A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life. The attempt and the risk that the eternal mother took with me is unique, unique the form and veins of my skin, unique the smallest play of leaves in my branches and the smallest scar on my bark. I was made to form and reveal the eternal in my smallest special detail." -- Hermann Hesse
'Speaking Tree' is a painting in acrylic on canvas representing trees superimposed on a human face and barren earth in the lower half of the image. The upper half is fertile and thriving while the lower half is barren and arid. The idea is to draw attention to mankind's complex equation with nature and the threat to the fragile ecosystems on our planet that nurture and sustain all life form on earth. Over the past centuries rampant industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, fossil fuels, carbon emission and several other factors have led to an escalating ecological imbalance resulting in global warming, climate change and allied environmental concerns. Our societies have strayed from nature and continue to distance themselves from the primordial force of nature. Despite the collective cynicism of the global intelligentsia about reaching a "point of no return"...the painting is my individual hope and artistic plea for a return to our roots and a realignment with the earth as our societies continue to indiscriminately embrace "progress", economically, socially, industrially. The need of the hour is to slowdown, reflect and experience everything nature offers and a sustainable existence for all to thrive in harmony with her laws.
